For Men Aging with HIV, GMHC’s Popular Barbershop Group Is an Antidote to Isolation
Long-term HIV survivors dealing with health issues and the loss of loved ones can often feel lonely and isolated. That is why Durell Knights facilitates the Barbershop for GMHC’s male and transmasculine clients over 50 living with HIV – one of the agency’s oldest and most popular support groups.

Building Trust Instead of Judgment: GMHC’s Person-Centered Services for Clients Using Substances
Enrollment has more than tripled since GMHC began offering person-centered substance use services last year to New Yorkers wanting help with substance use, thanks to a five-year grant from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and three-year funding from Elevance Health.

What are your hours?
- Headquarters: Monday – Friday, 10 AM – 6 PM
- Testing Center: Monday – Friday, 10 AM – 5 PM
- Closed Saturday & Sunday.
Is HIV testing free at GMHC?
Yes. We provide free and confidential HIV and STI testing to all community members.
Do I need an appointment for testing?
No appointment is needed. Walk-ins are welcome during testing hours.
What other services does GMHC provide?
In addition to testing, we offer housing support, legal services, meals & nutrition programs, mental health counseling, and more.
